Course Description
This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of the biological sciences, with an emphasis on the relationship of the material covered, to the events and challenges that make up the daily life of each student. In the first semester, the students study genetics, as well as basic cell and molecular biology. During the second semester, the focus is on a survey of the plant and animal kingdom, and the class learns to compare and contrast the phyla. As a result, the student gains an understanding of phylogeny and natural selection. The course content is consistent with the Arizona Science Standards. Both virtual and hands-on labs are given.
